Chicago-Style Drunksaling » Week #4 - Beer, Kitch & a Startling Lack of Games Posted on Monday June 02, 2003
Written by peccaui.

Back in the day when Chicago didn't resemble the arctic tundra, unitdaisy and I were so inspired by drunkgamers.com's garagesaling adventures that we went out about Chicago, scrounging for games. Often we returned home empty handed to post our experiences in the Drunkgamer's Message Forum.

Oh, and for those unfamiliar with the term garagesaling it's simple: you wake up far too early in the morning on the weekend and go out to garage sales looking for something (preferably videogame related) while wishing you were still in bed. You can picture for yourself what drunksaling is. Or just see below.

The following events occured on May 31st, 2003.

Unitdaisy was M.I.A. this week, so I found a fill-in to keep me company in this week's drunksaling: yzgi, from Heresy Productions. And for the first time, I was about to go drunksaling with a car! Unfortunately, we didn't really take much advantage of it. Take a look.

peccaui: First up, I found a cluster of sales right around the same few blocks - which rarely ever happens. We checked out the first one, which had less complete and utter trash than usual - nice for those that like paying for over-priced furniture. No games though. But they had beer there! Unfortuantely, they were unwilling to part with it.

peccaui: Luckily, the next sale was actually selling beer!

peccaui: Well, not really. They were selling beer signs. Not beer.

peccaui: Yzgi sez: "$125 is a bit much for neon kitch!"

peccaui: From there, we wandered over to one of the staple thrift stores in the area, containing this little beauty. Serial 4 life!

peccaui: Whoop de doo!

peccaui: I forget why, but at the time Yzgi was elated with the finding of this record. I think it had to do with Gallagher or something.

peccaui: And on that note, he loves his midi sounds!

peccaui: Yzgi just finagled a 2600, so he was happy to find this common little gem hiding in a pile of broken speakers and sewing machines.

peccaui: And here's the game that garnered me my driving license!

peccaui: One of hundreds of Genesis games that should never have been unleashed on our unsuspecting world:

peccaui: When Gamefaqs just isn't enough, we turn to this...

peccaui: Yzgi and I meandered around to a few other sales around the area, but found nothing but ...

peccaui: and ...

peccaui: ...more beer signs. It was surely an illuminated display, flashing on and off for us to just give up. And give up we did. Here's to hoping that next week will be better!

Find of the Week: You have got to be kidding me ... right?

Barrington High School football rules!

I remember having a Red Dog neon sign in my dorm room at college. It was the coolest thing for about six minutes. After that, the light was harsh and the high-pitched buzzing of neonites, or whatever makes it run, starts dissolving the more delicate parts of your inner ear.
